Speak Up NY!

Speak Up NY (2002) was a highly successful month-long project where the CyberCar traveled to colleges, high schools and communities in 23 cities in 22 days encouraging youth from 26 cities to participate in the gubernatorial election in the fall of 2002. Young New Yorkers were able and encouraged to register to vote for local and state elections and more than 2,000 new voters were registered. Youth questions and concerns were brought directly to policy makers as well as recorded and taken to the gubernatorial candidates such as George Pataki and H. Carl McCall. The nature of these exchanges proved that youth could speak up with power and conviction. Speak Up NY successfully opened up critical lines of communication between young New Yorkers and their political representatives. The resulting documentary achieved an Emmy®, Telly and Aurora Award.
