A Harlem Mother & BeyondBullets.org Shorts |

We are thrilled to work with DCTV Presents to screen BeyondBullets.org short videos and Ivana Todorovic's superb short film, A Harlem Mother at our home base, Downtown Community Television Center. After months of successful screenings at schools and community centers throughout NYC, now it's time to share this work with our DCTV community. The screening will be part of LoMAL's Fall Downtown series.

Please join us on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 for an afternoon of videos that explore our nation's gun violence epidemic from the perspectives of those who are most affected by it. Rarely do we get to hear the voices of people impacted by gun violence, especially youth, and Beyond Bullets has been collecting these stories for the past year.

"A Harlem Mother" is an award-winning film by Ivana Todorovic, which tells the story of Jean Corbett-Parker, a mother who lost her only son to gun violence and turned her grief around so she could support other mothers going through similar tragedy. The film has been screened at numerous festivals, including the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Ivana was an intern at DCTV while she was working on this film and we're honored to screen it here at the firehouse.

After the films, we will host a panel discussion about the news media's coverage of gun violence, and how young people of color can contribute to a change in this media landscape by sharing their own stories with the public. We will be announcing the panelists soon.

We hope you can make it to this screening and discussion, and that you'll consider being a part of our anti–gun violence movement.
