New York Teens Hit Albany! |
On April 25th, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence made their annual pilgrimage to Albany to talk to legislators about how gun violence affects communities in New York City. Buses filled with NYC teenagers made their way to the state capitol first thing in the morning, and the teens got right to work.
After a press conference and a series of individual meetings with state and local lawmakers, the students did their annual lie-in on the grounds of the capitol. Honoring those who have been killed by people with illegal guns in our country, students lay outside the capitol for three minutes - which is how long it took the shooter at Virginia Tech to purchase the weapons he used to kill 32 people and injure 17 more. They each read the name of someone in their lives who have been shot, or someone from the tragic Virginia Tech shooting.
We'll have video of the event soon. Until then, you can get to know the bills NYAGV is supporting this year here .
We heart NYAGV!
