Our Day on Capitol Hill | Washington D.C.
On Tuesday, May 17th, Beyond Bullets joined a group of New York City high school students in Washington DC as they briefed Members of Congress on a few pieces of gun legislation that they believe would help reduce gun violence in their neighborhoods.
We filmed the students as they prepared for the meetings, during the meetings and afterward. We were thrilled to witness our nation's democracy in action, as these eloquent and dignified teens were able to converse with leading government officials about the issues affecting them.
The trip was organized by our partners, American Friends Service Committee , and many of our other partners came along as well. New Yorkers Against Gun Violence , Crown Heights Community Mediation Center , High School for Enterprise, Business & Technology, The Green School and Harlem Mothers SAVE .
We'd like to extend a big congratulations to all the students who participated, and a thank you to Deanna Tilley and American Friends Service Committee for organizing the New York crew, and The Brady Campaign for helping to arrange meetings and supporting the teens in DC.
