President Obama's Olive Branch | Washington D.C.

This week, President Obama invited the National Rifle Association to the White House to have a discussion with gun control advocates about our national background check system and the gun show loophole. Not surprisingly, they refused the invitation. Maybe the Obama Administration is just going to have to make some decisions without them. Too bad.

President Obama's eloquent editorial in the Arizona Daily Star on Sunday was the start of the gun discussion he promised after Tucson. He admits to having increased our nation's gun rights during his first term in office, but also recognizes the responsibility that we have, each one of us, to place limits on gun accessibility. We are all a part of the "American community", regardless of our individual right to bear arms, and if gun violence affects one of us, it affects all of us.
